This is a great dictionary for a student or teacher as well. I like the fact that there is a two-color design and that makes it easier to find the word you are looking for. It is very simple and so easy to use. There is also extra information
for a complete learning experience. There are also 1,000 themed color illustrations
to make learning more fun and easy.

"The Spirit Within" creates fear in a young teen

Overall, The Spirit Within, is a good YA book of the supernatural, with a needed warning to young girls/women about abusive relationships. Ms. Parker writes to the YA audience in terms and actions that is a part of their everyday lives. I hope to see more by this author. I was a little disappointed in the ending. Using paranormal brain activity to kill the antagonist is a little harsh of an ending for this, otherwise, age-appropriate book,. I would rather have seen law enforcement step in and have the abusive boyfriend pay for his crimes. I look forward to a sequel and to watch this young writer develop into a seasoned author as her skills and talents mature around her abundant creativity.

Young Cassy copes with an abusive boyfriend and newfound powers. The supernatural elements of this work provide hope for an otherwise doomed heroine. Overmatched and vulnerable, Cassy finds strength from something she can't begin to understand. A love story....a fantasy work...and an all too real horror story familiar to many young women.

good coverage of many topics

This second edition from 1988 is still useful and relevant to practicing engineers who need a quick reference to standard materials and processing steps for elastomers. There is advice on, for example, whether an elastomer is corrosive while molten or not. The former mandates the use of corrosion resistant holding containers, which can add significantly to the costs.

Another topic is shrinkage. During injection molding, once the substance cools, it can be a consideration. Suggestions are made for controlling the shrinkage, like varying the relative humidity or doing annealing of parts to relieve stress.

Then there is the issue of injection pressure. Some elastomers flow easily and need little forcing pressure. For what needs to be avoided is overpressure, which can result in overpacking and sticking in the molding frame.

A really wonderful book and it came in perfect condition!

I really loved this series! I love all of the side stories, as well as the main stories, but I did really like this series a lot. Though the Alice x Blood ship isn't my top favorite, this story really made me realize the potential and the soft side of Blood. I can't wait to read more!
The manga had a great story that delved more into Blood, who he is, his past, and the softness that he hides from others, since he's the mafia boss. I'm trying to write this without giving away spoilers, which is really difficult, so all I can say is the story is amazing and well worth the buy. I personally like owning my books, since I like to re-read them a LOT, especially my favorites, and I already know that I'll be re-reading these a lot. This series also got me really interested in Joker and his story.
The book itself was in perfect condition, there was nothing wrong with the cover or the pages inside. I really love this particular artist (Mamenosuke) and I'm really glad they are the ones who illustrated Blood's story. I really like the other artist(s) as well, but this particular art style is one of my favorites. Sometimes I'll go into book stores and see books that have some dents and dings around the edges of the cover from where other customers haven't handled the books very well, but I didn't have that problem here. The manga was in absolutely perfect condition.
Overall this was a great purchase and I'll definitely be going back to Amazon for future manga purchases!

I am rabid about these books. Every time a new one comes out, I have to pounce it! Fair warning though: this volume is a looooooooot of re-cap from Country Of Hearts. It's got some great bits tossed in there (not going to spoil it), but if you're expecting a whole new plotline, you're not really going to find that here. More like, it's setting you up for the plot, if that makes any sense? Still worth having, though. Especially if you're a Jokers fan like me!

About the Author

Jim McKenzie was the first to come out with a book that combines program planning, implementing, and evaluating all in one place. A Professor at Penn State Hershey and a Professor Emeritus at Ball State University, he is Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES). He also serves as the Coordinator of the Division Board of Certified Health Education Specialists of the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.

 

Brad Neiger is the chair of the Health Science Department at Brigham Young University. Brad has also served in the field within the Utah State Department of Health and the National Health Institute.

 

Rosemary Thackeray is an Associate Professor at Brigham Young University. She has revised the marketing chapter, her area of expertise.

About the Author

Randy Knight has taught introductory physics for 32 years at Ohio State University and California Polytechnic University, where he is Professor Emeritus of Physics. Randy received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California–Berkeley. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics before joining the faculty at Ohio State University. It was at Ohio State, under the mentorship of Professor Leonard Jossem, that he began to learn about the research in physics education that, many years later, led to Five Easy Lessons: Strategies for Successful Physics Teaching, Physics for Scientists and Engineers: A Strategic Approach, and now to this book. Randy’s research interests are in the fields of lasers, spectroscopy, and environmental science. When he’s not in front of a computer, you can find Randy hiking, sea kayaking, playing the piano, or spending time with his wife Sally and their six cats. 
 
Brian Jones has won several teaching awards at Colorado State University during his 25 years teaching in the Department of Physics. His teaching focus in recent years has been the College Physics class, including writing problems for the MCAT exam and helping students review for this test. In 2011, Brian was awarded the Robert A. Millikan Medal of the American Association of Physics Teachers for his work as director of the Little Shop of Physics, a hands-on science outreach program. He is actively exploring the effectiveness of methods of informal science education and how to extend these lessons to the college classroom. Brian has been invited to give workshops on techniques of science instruction throughout the United States and in Belize, Chile, Ethiopia, Azerbaijan, Mexico, and Slovenia. Brian and his wife Carol have dozens of fruit trees and bushes in their yard, including an apple tree that was propagated from a tree in Isaac Newton’s garden.
 
Stuart Field has been interested in science and technology his whole life. While in school he built telescopes, electronic circuits, and computers. After attending Stanford University, he earned a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago, where he studied the properties of materials at ultralow temperatures. After completing a postdoctoral position at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he held a faculty position at the University of Michigan. Currently at Colorado State University, Stuart teaches a variety of physics courses, including algebra-based introductory physics, and was an early and enthusiastic adopter of Knight’s Physics for Scientists and Engineers. Stuart maintains an active research program in the area of superconductivity. Stuart enjoys Colorado's great outdoors, where he is an avid mountain biker; he also plays in local ice hockey leagues.

Comprehensive and Well Explained

College Physics by Knight does a fantastic job of putting complicated physics concepts to elegant explanation and diagrams. The organization and consistency of throughout the book made learning predictable and thus easy to follow. The practice questions at the end of each chapter are of a wide range of difficulties, providing practice for all phases of learning.

Some of the practice questions assumed values that were mentioned in the associated chapter (ex. specific index of refraction for glass) but not in the problem itself, which made finding the solution more difficult. It would be helpful if all of the values required for solving the problem were given in the question, as on an exam.

Overall, this textbook has been greatly beneficial in my understanding of physics. I've had the unfortunate luck of getting some pretty terrible physics lecturers, I owe my success in physics to Knight!

Pedagogical Mess

Knight's College Physics is all the rage now that the College Board has effectively endorsed it as among the sacred few textbooks, along with Etkina. All of which have the pretense of being a 'modeler's textbook' which spends a great deal of time 'defining systems'. The reality is that the text is overly verbose and inconsistent in how it uses notation. For example, the author goes into painstaking detail to describing the interaction of forces, but proceeds to use an alphabet soup to describe the forces themselves(w for weight, n for normal force, T for tension, fs for static friction, fk for kinetic friction and D for drag friction). The text is very light on derivations, which is totally unacceptable and does the student a disservice by excluding them and in its place puts a paragraph of droning text, see centripetal acceleration. Additionally, the author does a disservice to students by improperly imposing a Cartesian coordinate system on rotating system. For example, in solving a problem of a bike on top of the loop the loop, the author sets up the vertical as the x axis and finds the net force in the x direction and sets it equal to mv^2/r. This is terrible pedagogy and one that could leave a lasting negative effect on students.

Do yourself a favor and avoid adopting this text. There are better options, like Giancoli Physics for instance.

Required, have read better

While this book was required for a course I took, I still think I would purchase/rent a different text for the same class if I had to do it over. It explained things well enough, but I've read better physics text books. I was constantly referring to my older texts and also Physics Work Books (supplementary to course work) in order to fully understand a given concept. Science writing doesn't have to be difficult to digest, and this book was on the verge of being vague and not offering enough detail to answer all of my questions.

Neglected gem of Fichte's popular works

This is a review of the importance of this work by Fichte, not the translation, which is more or less accurate to Fichte's German.

The Characteristics of the Present Age belongs with Fichte's popular works, for they were given publically and were intended to work out the implications of his transcendental idealism for practical matters such as history and politics. In this, these lectures serve an analogous function to Hegel's own lectures on the philosophy of history (given as college lectures and not public talks per se), though Fichte's lectures have never served as popular introductions to his speculative philosophy, as Hegel's lectures on the philosophy of history did for his thought. Indeed, Fichte's Characteristics of the Present Age have suffered from benign neglect in the non-German speaking world; while the various editions of the difficult and even byzantine Wissenschaftslehre are studied regularly, Characteristics is relegated to obscurity as an idiosyncratic statement on historical necessity by a philosopher about to be eclipsed by younger, more radical thinkers such as Hegel. Collingwood (1994:108) sums up much of the scholarship dealing with Fichte's philosophy of history: "The chief difficulty which a reader finds in dealing with Fichte's view of history is the difficulty of being patient with what appears so silly," though he does not think that this verdict is completely warranted, and for good reason. For just as Fichte's Wissenschaftslehre is widely recognized as the most important link in the development of idealism from Kant to Hegel, so is Characteristics the single most important link between Herder's romantic appropriation of the philosophy of history from Voltaire, and the full flowering of philosophy of history in Hegel. Herder provided the impetus for looking at historical ages as actual histories which had value in and of themselves; Fichte is able to take these histories, more specifically the history of his own time, and infuse them with a universal philosophy which, though Herder had warned against such all-encompassing systems of thought, was able to perfectly catch the Zeitgeist of the emerging nineteenth century political and philosophical ferment. Though it remained for Hegel to make the philosophical understanding of history truly philosophical in a way that his contemporaries would embrace, Fichte is the first important post-Kantian philosopher to offer a comprehensive system of history and philosophy which attempts to come to terms with both actual history, and universal philosophical claims.
